Due to the high interest the fourth swim across the Danube timed competition in Budapest is going to be organized soon between the Pest-side bridge foundation of Szabadság híd and the embankment at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

Event registration: opens 15 of July at 10:00 AM on BUG website. Entry is subject to deposit that is 5,000 Ft / entrant for individual sport types. If you attend the competition we refund this amount to you by wire-transfer within 10 days after the date of event. Further condition of entry is to hold a family doctor certificate, or a medical fitness certificate issued by a sports physician in terms of competitors signed on by a sports club. In each case the certificate has be issued within 1 month prior to the event date. The doctor present on the event can also issue the medical certificate for a 9,000 Ft fee. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age to take part in the competition.
This year we take back the Danube from the ships and the cars speeding along the embankment so that a greater number of you can swim across the river — hopefully in a higher level of water having greater current this time. Swimming is under the direction of Botond Újhelyi, also called “Coach” together with the Special Rescue Team of Pest County, who have been operating as lifeguards all over the world.
Competition details
- The event is organized if water level and weather conditions are appropriate.
- Every entrant is competing under his/her own responsibility.
- The distance depends on course alignment and water level, but every entrant has to be able to swim at least 450 m in water having strong current. If someone drifts away from the designated water corridor then he/she will be rescued.
- Securing the competition is ensured by the Special Rescue Team of Pest County according to the security plan defined by the Danube Water Police.
Prizes: those (men/women) who finish in the top three are awarded by a special BUG 2020 - Danube cross-swim medal and other prizes provided by our sponsors.
